DJ Dummy is having a pretty incredible year. The New York DJ started the year off by rocking the Grammys and Academy Awards’ stages alongside Common in jaw-dropping performances for the film Selma. Not stopping there, DJ Dummy kept crowds rocking all over the world when he joined J. Cole on his Forest Hills Drive Tour that wrapped up this summer.

DJ Dummy set the tone for the Coors Light Soundtrack reFresh Tour. His set included mixes from chart-topping old-school and new-school hip-hop.
We caught up with the DJ after his energetic performance.

Who are some of your musical influences as far as DJs in the game today?
Me [laughs], my crew, my brother DJ LS One, my partner DJ Base, my other partner DJ Dice, Jazzy Jeff, of course. It gets no better than Jazzy Jeff.

We know that you DJ for JCole. Who are some of the other artists you are working with today?
I work with Common. I am also Common’s DJ. I’m Queen Latifah’s DJ. I DJ for Alicia Keys. Right now those are my four artists.

What will we see from DJ Dummy in the future?
Production. I am working with a lot of artists now. I’ve been making beats but I’ve been deejaying so much that I haven’t been concentrating because I’ve been on the road. But now I’m off tour, so now I’m back in the studio working on more beats.
