Production on the long awaited big screen adaptation of Teri Woods’ classic street lit novel True To The Game is finally underway.

The film will feature an ensemble cast including Columbus Short, Vivica A. Fox, Evan Ross, Keith Robinson, Nelsan Ellis, and newcomer Erica Peeples. Short will also serve as a producer on the film via his production company, Great Picture Show, alongside Leah Daniels-Butler (Empire) and Manny Halley of Imani Films and Imani Entertainment Group.

Woods’ novel centers on the tumultuous relationship between a young woman from the projects of Philadelphia and a young drug-dealing millionaire who introduces her to his fast-paced and dangerous lifestyle. The story is set in ’80s Philadelphia as the couple navigates the unforgiving and cyclical world of sex, drugs and money.

Screenwriter Nia Hill (“Sunday Best”, “The Family Crews”) penned the explosive script while Danny Green (Love and Basketball, Star Trek) has been tapped to direct the feature that recently began principal shooting in Los Angeles.

True To The Game is scheduled to be released in 2016.
