In many Black communities, beauty, nail and barber shops are considered central and important locations. Men, women and children frequent these establishments on a consistent basis. Community members trust the men and women who own and work in these businesses to groom them for everyday maintenance, and to celebrate life’s special moments.
Seldom do we celebrate the services provided by these businesses; however, recently, the Black McDonald’s Operators Association of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana (BMOA) did just that. In support of the excitement surrounding All Day Breakfast at McDonald’s, the BMOA brought a special treat of their own to Chicagoland customers at upwards of 200 barbershops, beauty salons and nail spas across the city. The treat was free breakfast for stylists and shop-goers who happened to be in the establishments on that day.
Additionally, to show their gratitude for all of the hard work in the community the local shop owners and workers contribute, the BMOA gifted capes, mirrors and other items of appreciation. This is one of the many examples of how the BMOA stay deeply rooted and continue to pay it forward in the African American community.
