It came as a major shock to TV fans earlier this year when it was revealed that veteran actress Kim Fields was joining the cast of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta.” But join she did and now the new season of the show is set to premiere this Sunday night. While doing promo for the season, Fields stopped by the “Wendy Williams Show” recently and finally answered the question of why she joined the cast.

Before the interview even started, Fields thanked Williams for warning her months ago to not do the show.

“I know you’re supposed to start, but can I? I have to say thank you to you. You were so protective and you were so, girl don’t do this. How I received it was from the place of just protection, almost like big sis, you know what I mean? I don’t care what anybody else said, because it was for me and that’s how I received it,” Fields said.

According to Fields, reality TV offers had come her way in the past, but she decided to join “RHOA” because it offered the biggest platform for her.

“My family and I have been asked to do reality TV for years and have our own show and all sorts of things. Either the platform wasn’t right or timing wasn’t right and when this opportunity came up, it became, go big or go home,” she explained.

Although Williams continued to tell her it was a bad decision to join the show, Fields explained that she also decided to join the cast as a way to experience what it’s like to have a group of girlfriends around her, something she explains she doesn’t have in her everyday life.

“It was almost like a social adventure for me to be able to say oh, let me try this,” Fields said.

Well, we have to agree with Williams that although Fields could revived her acting career with this exposure, she’s put herself on an intensely stressful show that could potentially damage her brand. Hopefully, she follows Williams’ advice to just do one season of the show, capitalize on the exposure, and then leave for good.

However, Fields’ interview didn’t end there. See what else she had to say about “RHOA” after the cut.
