Being overweight can be a serious threat to not only a person’s quality of life, but length of life. According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), being overweight can lead to diabetes, heart disease, a stroke, kidney disease, fatty liver disease, and certain cancers. In 2013, heart disease was the number one killer of African Americans, highlighting that carrying around extra fat is a fatal issue within the community.

While many people choose to overcome their weight problems and shed some pounds, those who did this while in the limelight can be some of the most encouraging examples of making major changes in order to stay healthy. Celebrities like Anthony Anderson and Aretha Franklin are just a couple examples of those who have shed some major weight in recent years, but then there are stars who have made even more drastic weight loss transformations.

With healthy eating habits, smaller meal portions, exercise, and a whole lot of dedication, the following celebrities have lost at least 100 pounds after years of being extremely overweight. Some underwent weight loss surgery to kick off their journey to better health, but they still manage to stay slim with exercise and a proper diet.

Kelly Price

It is unknown exactly how much weight Kelly Price lost, but the vocal powerhouse has definitely shed some major pounds within the past decade. At the height of her career in the 90s, the “Heartbreak Hotel” singer was obese, but she soon began to appear several dress sizes smaller and looked much healthier. Although Price has gained some of the weight she lost back, she has still come a long way in her journey from where she first started.
