On how Ellison proposed
“A few days into us talking again, he was like let’s go hang out in the studio. We went to the studio — a really cool spot here in New York City — and the manager of the studio was like, Doug wants to talk to you upstairs on the roof. I was supposed to have known what was going to happen next, but I get to the rooftop. There [are] flower petals on the ground, the Empire State Building is in the background, and here he is, dropping down to one knee, and opening up a box, and I couldn’t do anything but scream and every kind of reaction I don’t think you’re supposed to have. I never cried, I just screamed, and screamed, and screamed.”
On the celebrity wedding guest list
“That’s the problem. See, because what I was going to do, I was going to get married here in New York City at a small spot that was just one hundred people, but then my friends started hitting me like, ‘I know I got the invite.’ Everybody’s coming! I’m inviting Fantasia, I’m inviting Teyana [Taylor] and Iman [Shumpert], I’m inviting everybody, and I think it’s going to be one of those big things.”
