The highly anticipated remake of The Wiz directed by Kenny Leon debuted on Thursday, Dec. 3 on NBC. Although the cast was laden with star power, the lead role of Dorothy was played by newcomer Shanice Williams. Williams was joined by Queen Latifah, Ne-Yo, David Alan Grier, Common, Elijah Kelly and the Queen of Soul Mary J. Blige for a historical live performance that undoubtedly delivered NBC record-breaking numbers.
Although audiences were familiar with the story made a cult classic by Diana Ross and Michael Jackson, the overall consensus via social media suggests the remake made the cut with audiences across the country. Besides being thoroughly entertained; we learned at least five valuable lessons from NBC’s “The Wiz Live!”
