It was a shocker last week when reports revealed that Nicki Minaj’s older brother, Jelani Maraj, had been arrested and charged with raping a 12-year-old girl. At the time, little was known about the case, but now new reports have revealed details about the alleged crime.
According to the New York Daily News, Maraj made his first appearance in a Nassau County courthouse in Mineola, New York, yesterday, with his mother, Carol Maraj, and his lawyer, Andrea Zellan, by his side.
Maraj was originally scheduled to be arraigned on Dec. 3, but because he complained of health issues after his arrest, he was arraigned from his hospital bed instead.
Although the site was scarce on further details, a source did say that the child that Maraj allegedly raped was someone he had access to.
Maraj is reportedly now facing two felony charges: felony sexual conduct against a child in the first degree, and first-degree rape. If he’s found guilty, he could face up to 50 years in prison.
The court documents also allegedly show that it was Maraj’s mother, Carol, who posted the $100K bail to get him out of a Nassau County jail. The report claims that Carol put up her Baldwin, New York, home along with two $50,000 promissory notes to pay for the bail.
