The brothers-In-law are back and the force (and box-office crown) is now with them,
Ride Along 2, Kevin Hart and Ice Cube’s long anticipated sequel to their record-breaking 2014 comedy, is finally here and not only did it take the No. 1 spot in its opening weekend, but it also managed to end the reign of Star Wars: The Force Awakens after it set a record as the highest grossing film in North American history in just over a month on the way to its current title as third highest grossing film of all time.
With a total of $34 million earned, Ride Along 2, easily shot past the Oscar buzz heavy The Revenant, which held steady in its second place spot with an additional $29.5 million. Star Wars dropped to third this week with $25.1 million. Powerhouse director Michael Bay’s drama-packed thriller, 13 Hours:The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi bowed at the fourth spot this week with a somewhat disappointing showing of $16 million. And rounding out the top five is Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell’s comedic dueling flick, Daddy’s Home, which earned another $9.3 million.
