Summer Mitchell was a former student of Kenwood Academy High School. She left in her junior year to live with her boyfriend and take online classes. On Sunday, her body was found in her apartment in Lansing, a southern suburb of Chicago. It is suspected that her boyfriend may have had something to do with it and he is currently missing. Mitchell’s car, a gold Grand Am, is also missing. The boyfriend’s mother found the body and called Mitchell’s stepmother to inform her.

The police are officially conducting a death investigation and are awaiting forensic results to come back before they rule the death a homicide. The family believes that Mitchell’s boyfriend shot her after an argument.

According to chicagocbslocal.com Summer’s father, Calvin Mitchell, pleaded with his daughter’s boyfriend to turn himself in.“You can’t run forever. Just turn yourself in. Don’t hide. Hiding’s not going to get you nowhere, because you will be found,” he said.

In an unfortunate twist, Andrew Holmes, a community activist who has been working on behalf of many of the teens who have been killed in Chicago is Mitchell’s uncle. He had this to say to Summer’s boyfriend: “If you didn’t have anything to hide, you would at least still have been there, and talked to the authorities out there. You have information that can close this case, whether or not you were inside of there, but if you’re staying away, then [there’s] a lot of information you’re withholding,”
