A woman in Detroit was brutally attacked and killed while waiting in her car. According to The Detroit News, Erica Garner, 43, had parked her car near a recreational center on East 8 Mile.

Garner was waiting for her 11-year-old son to leave basketball practice when she was approached by Ralph Anthony Marshall. Marshall, 17, and another teenage suspect attempted to steal and force Garner out of her car. Garner tried to drive away, but Marshall shot her in the head.

Other parents who were waiting for their kids to leave practice went to assist Garner who was throwing up blood. They called 911, but she eventually died from her gunshot wound while at Detroit Receiving Hospital.

Garner was attempting to keep her son on the right path by enrolling him in sports. But she was taken by the same element that she wanted to keep her son away from.

After the attack, Marshall and the other teen fled on foot, but he was arrested while at a bus stop. Along with Garner’s murder, Marshall is being charged with another car jacking that was non-fatal. If convicted, he could spend the rest of his life behind bars.

Along with her 11-year-old son, Garner also had a teenage daughter.
