The VIP and celebrity turnout was awesome as everyone anxiously anticipated seeing the film Race. Stephan James is truly a young star on his way to big things in the film world after his superb portrayal of renowned Olympic gold medalist Jesse Owens. The 22-year-old Canadian actor’s skills won over the hearts of the entire audience in his role as Owens, who was determined to change the world’s perception of Black athletes by winning the gold medal in Berlin and making a statement for America.
Kim Fields co-hosted and opened up the movie by introducing James to the audience and mentioned how important it is that we support Black films and the arts. James spoke about what an awesome time he had throughout filming. He also thanked everyone for their support and coming out to the screening.
Ludacris, his wife, Eudoxie; Ambassador Andrew Young; film producer Will Packer; actors Jessie T. Usher, Erica Ash (“Survivor’s Remorse”); Kathleen Bertrand, executive producer, Bronze Lens Film Festival; and a slew of media outlets all showed up to support Race, which will be released nationally Feb. 19.
