2016 has been a tumultuous year thus far and Black men are definitely on the radar of everyone in the world. We must recognize that the lives of these men mean something to the world at large.
Recently, The Chicago Defender honored Black men during the 9th annual Men of Excellence event. Businessman, scholars and corporate leaders were celebrated because of who they are and how their contributions to society has added value to the lives of everyone, especially Black people. The room was filled with a joyous vibration that illuminated the room at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Chicago. Art Norman was the master of ceremonies for the evening. He made mention of television stations not being present when something good is going on in our community. He also made it a point to say that if something was going wrong, that the cameras would be there in full force.
We spoke with one of the honorees, Percy Scott, president of Global 360 Marketing and he had this to say about the celebration, “It is very humbling to be honored not only for business success but for my efforts done in the community. I’m honored the Chicago Defender would recognize men who give back and not just those who have come up. We appreciate the Chicago Defender for taking the time out to honor our Black men and we pray that the world becomes a better place because of them.”
Legendary radio DJ Herb Kent was honored with a lifetime achievement award acknowledging what he means to the world of broadcasting and being a consistent voice for the past 70 years.
