After what has proven to be one of the weirdest and most off-kilter album roll outs in recent memory, Kanye West finally released his long awaited new album, The Life Of Pablo, shortly after his performance of a couple tracks from the album on a recent Saturday Night Live.
The final version of the album differs slightly from the version heard two nights ago by the 20,000 plus people lucky enough to be in attendance at West’s Yeezy Season 3 fashion show or those that watched the live stream of the event on Tidal.
Much like Rihanna’s latest album, Anti, Tidal has first dibs on the album before it goes to other digital outlets.
“Kanye West announces that his plan to bring THE LIFE OF PABLO to his millions of fans around the globe is a family affair: via direct download at Kanye’s own web store and an exclusive partnership for streaming with his brother JAY Z and global content platform TIDAL,” says a record company press release.
Fans who are not currently Tidal subscribers can either sign up for the site’s free trial period or listen to 30 second snippets of each song.
In addition to being available for streaming exclusively on Tidal for the first seven days, Pablo is also available for download at KanyeWest.com, where users are greeted by a message from South Africa by West’s friend and G.O.O.D. Music signee, Yasin Bey aka Mos Def.
As many fans are well aware, West’s seventh studio album was slated to drop on February 12th but was delayed according to a tweet by West because burgeoning Chicago emcee Chance The Rapper was holding the album up after insisting that a song he produced called “Waves” appear on the album. “Waves”, which also features Chris Brown, was part of a earlier tracklist released, but apparently cut before Chance’s intervention.
“I fought everyone to keep Waves on the album,” Chance tweeted shortly after West’s tweet kick started a #BlameChance hashtag. “I spent all night finishing it. The world is better because of it.”
Shortly after the album was released a #ThankChance hashtag begun after fans were able to finally hear the song that held the album up.
