Two 911 operators in Chicago have been suspended following their negligence in handling a call made by Quintonio LeGrier. During the early morning hours of Dec. 26, Quintonio was experiencing a mental breakdown.
The student at Northern Illinois University believed that someone was attempting to kill him. He called 911 and told the operator that someone was threatening his life. The operator asked him to identify himself and LeGrier responded by saying, “Can you just send an officer.” The operator became upset and responded by saying, “Yeah, when you answer the question.” When LeGrier told the person, “Q,” the operator hung up on him.
LeGrier called 911 a third time and a police officer was finally dispatched to the scene. LeGrier’s father also called 911 and told operators that the teen was off of his medication and attempting to break down his door with a bat.
When police officer Robert Rialmo arrived, he shot LeGrier six times and also shot his neighbor, Bettie Jones, 55, once in the chest. Both victims died from their gunshot wounds.
The 911 operators lack of efficiency and gross negligence by Officer Rialmo reveals how the corruption of the city continues to have detrimental consequences on the citizens of Chicago.
The 911 operator who answered the first call at 4:18 a.m. was suspended for three days for failure to dispatch someone when the teen initially said his life was in danger. Also, the 911 operator who answered the next call at 4:20 a.m. was suspended for one day for failure to dispatch a squad car.
LeGrier and Jones’ families sued Chicago and Officer Rialmo for $10 million for the vicious murder of two citizens. However, Rialmo, in a move that should prove his filthiness as a human, decided to counter sue LeGrier’s family. The classless officer stated that he was suffering from emotional distress after killing a Black teenager who didn’t pose a threat.
