Members of the Ku Klux Klan were arrested for stabbing three people in Anaheim, California. The incident took place on February 27 when several members of the KKK decided to hold a rally to speak out against illegal immigrants and Muslims at Pearson Park.
According to the Los Angeles Times, a few protestors arrived at the park with the hopes of forcing the KKK to leave their community. However, the situation became violent and a fight ensued. More members of the KKK arrived in a black SUV and began fighting the protestors.
At some point, the members of the KKK began using weapons. One member allegedly used the sharp end of a flag pole (which held the Confederate flag) to stab a victim. Two other victims were also stabbed by members of the KKK, but it was reported that a knife was used.
Police arrived on the scene and broke up the melee and eventually arrested 13 people in all.
Unfortunately, we’re still in a time when the KKK is allowed to exist on American soil. The history of violence and death by the terrorist organization should have made it an illegal organization years ago. Imagine if ISIS or Al Qaeda had decided to host a rally at an American park. Members of the organization would have been arrested within a matter of minutes. The KKK and other hate groups should be treated with same strict rules that are given to foreign terrorists.
If a member of the KKK is found to be guilty by association, it should be followed by jail time. The only way to begin to put an end to racism is to make the act illegal in action and speech. Racism should be viewed with the same severity as a terroristic threat.
But like many towns in the South, Anaheim has dealt with racism by the KKK for decades. At its peak, 300 members of the KKK lived in Orange County.
The three individuals who were stabbed by members of the KKK are currently in stable condition.
