Drake has revealed he no longer speaks with Nicki Minaj.
The rapper, who just dropped his fourth studio album, Views From the 6, recently spoke with Zane Lowe on Apple Music, during which he admitted there’s a major rift in his relationship with Minaj.“I don’t really talk to Nicki,” he admitted. “Again, another person that I have a lot of love for and a lot of respect, not only for our past and how much work and time we put in, but even just the way she dealt with the situation [regarding Birdman and Lil Wayne] at hand.”
Although unconfirmed, there’s speculation the former pals’ bad blood came on the heels of Drake and Meek Mill’s epic feud, last summer, when the duo exchanged diss tracks. “I understand what love is, and I understand a personal situation,” said Drake. “She dealt with me how I would expect her to, which was with class, and I could only ever do the same. There were points in time where I was waiting to see like, how is this going to go, how deep is your love, you know? You gotta ask yourself that.”
The 29-year-old went on to address rumors of another beef, with Jay Z and Kanye West. “Sometimes [Jay Z and I] just fall on opposite sides of the spectrum. It’s always mutual respect but sometimes it has to be from afar,” Drake explained.
As for West, who happens to live down the street from the “Hotline Bling” rapper, Drake says he loves working with him and hopes to release a collaborative album in the near future. “‘Ye is one of my favorite people in the world … I hope we get some more music out. We were supposed to do a mixtape, album together.”
Meanwhile, Drizzy revealed he’s grown close to another female superstar … Rihanna. Not only did Drake appear on the bad gal’s super successful “Work” single, but the duo collaborated for “Too Good,” fresh off Views. “It wouldn’t be a record without Rihanna, would it? We do well as a team,” he said. “[I was like] I think I have one that would follow this one up really nicely. It was like a flawless victory when she sent it back. Every nuance, every cadence was perfect. … That’s what makes the record.”
In fact, the Champagne Papi avowed nothing between the pair is fabricated. “We’re not forcing some story on people. A lot of the music and energy we have is genuine. We have a genuine energy.”
While there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel for Drizzy and Barbz, we’ve never known a boy to keep longtime friends apart … for too long. What are your thoughts on Drake and Nicki’s fight? Sound off in the comment section below.
