A horrific triple murder and attempted suicide by Octavia Rogers, 29, a mother of three in Phoenix has shocked the city. Police say the woman’s brother came home to find her talking about God and finding the key to life. He then stated she locked herself in a room and when he broke through the door she went into another room and locked the door. When he was able to gain entry, the mother of three had stabbed herself in the neck with a large knife.
When police arrived, they encountered a horrific scene: Rogers had killed and dismembered her children. The dead children are identified as Jaikare Rahaman, 8, Jeremiah Adams, 5 and two-month-old baby Avery Robinson. In addition, police have stated that the bodies were stuffed in a closet and the baby was placed in a suitcase. A source has told investigators that Rogers had been smoking “Spice,” synthetic marijuana that has grown in popularity across the United States. This drug has also been the cause of psychotic episodes among its users. The drug goes by many other names and the chemical makeup and packaging is constantly changing, making it difficult for law enforcement and state legislators to ban the deadly product.
According to Arizona Child Welfare officials, Rogers and her family had been the subject of investigations involving physical abuse and marijuana use. The agency, however, found no grounds to substantiate the use of marijuana and her children were not taken into state custody. Family and friends of Rogers described her as a devoted mother who loved her children and gave no indication that she was capable of such actions. Rogers has had a troubled personal life that also included alleged physical abuse at the hands of one her children’s father. She is now currently being held at a Phoenix jail after being treated for her injuries. Earlier this week, a judge charged her with three counts of murder and placed a $1 million cash only bond, calling Rogers “a danger to herself and others.”
