Deonte Carraway, 22, was a teacher’s aide at Judge Sylvania Woods Elementary School in Prince George’s County, Maryland, and allegedly sexually abused at least 23 minors between the ages of 8 and 13. He is accused of using his position of authority to have sex with children and video them using the app Snapchat and Kikk. According to a media interview he gave at the time of his arrest, he lured kids with games such as Hide-and-Go-Seek or Truth or Dare. Then it evolved into kissing and more sexual acts between the children, including sexual intercourse. He then circulated pictures of these encounters and was finally caught when a guardian found a nude photo of their child on a cellphone. The guardian reported Carraway to the school’s principal and to Prince George’s County police.

Soon it was found that Carraway had abused at least 20 boys and three girls between August 2015 and February 2016 both on and off school property. These sexual assaults took place not only at the school but at least three of the students’ homes. Unsuspecting parents had invited Carraway to babysit or tutor their children and he took the opportunity to have sex with them. He was indicted by the state this past Wednesday on 270 counts that included 23 charges of sex abuse of a minor. The indictment reads in part, “Several children indicated that the defendant told them that they would be participating in a ‘club,’ and that if they wanted to be a part of it, they had to send photos and videos of themselves engaged in sexual acts while alone and while performing sexual acts on other children … Carraway visited several of these children in their homes, ostensibly after the children’s parents had asked him to baby-sit or tutor the children.”

He also used his position as director of Glenarden Municipal Center choir to lure other children into his twisted world of pedophilia. In addition to the state charges, Carraway also was charged with 13 federal charges of producing child pornography in February 2016.  A civil class-action lawsuit has been filed by the families and guardians of some of his victims against the Prince George’s County Board of Education, Judge Sylvania Woods Elementary School principal Michelle Williams and Carraway.
