On Friday, July 22, 2016, the Atlanta Office of Cultural Affairs hosted ELEVATE: Summer on South Broad Street, a one-day event in the heart of downtown that featured performance art, dance, music, public art installations, an artist market and food trucks. This year’s free lineup included a proud partnership with Poetry Slam Inc.’s National Poetry Slam Atlanta groups: Art Amok, Java Monkey, Fountain City (Brave New Voices team) and Just ‘N Thyme, Bharatanatyam dancer Uma Pulendran, Atlanta-based visual artist Ajmal “Mas Man” Millar; Musical group Mausiki Scales Mausiki Scales & the Common Ground Collective, and headlining the show were popular Atlanta-based musicians Speakerfoxxx & Bosco.

While listening to live music from the amazing acts ELEVATE attendees were able to check out the best the city has to offer in public art installations which were created by local south downtown art organizations including Murmur Media, Broad Street Visitors Center, Mammal Gallery, Eyedrum Music & Art Gallery and historic Downtown Player’s Club.

The Office of Cultural Affairs also announced the theme for the annual ELEVATE fall program scheduled to take place Oct. 13 – 21, 2016 on South Broad Street. This year, ELEVATE’s theme is “Microcosm” and will be curated by  Allie Bashuk, Monica Campana, Pastiche Lumumba and Mark DiNatale.
