For the past five years, the Westside Music Festival has been a shining example of a community supporting art and culture. The Westside Music Festival was created to fill the void of cultural programming and outlets available to residents on the West Side of Chicago. WSMF helps establish the West Side as a destination for music and summer festival fun, drawing audiences from both local and citywide communities.

WSMF is a free outdoor event with activities and performances for all ages. This event takes place from noon to 9 p.m. in Douglas Park, 1401 S. Sacramento Dr. (at the corner of Ogden and Sacramento). The WSMF host, Ramonski Luv, will be joined by special guest, Grammy and Oscar winner, Che “Rhymefest” Smith. There will also be a special performance by the Hiplet Ballerinas, who were recently featured on “Good Morning America.”

The festival begins  with the End of Summer Celebration sponsored by the 24th Ward Alderman, Michael Scott Jr., which includes activities for kids and seniors, along with school supply and backpack giveaways.

“It’s an honor to partner with the Westside Cultural Foundation and again host the WSMF in North Lawndale.  Every year this event gets stronger and stronger. WSMF has become one of the best End of the Summer Celebrations in the City of Chicago,” says Scott.

Last year, Bell Biv Devoe left the crowd shouting for more as they ran through all of their hits as BBD and New Edition. The excitement was at a fever pitch and BBD’s performance was the perfect end to a perfect day. This year, Mc Lyte, Slick Rick and Kelly Price will perform on the main stage. Local artists K Love the Poet, Krystal Metcalfe, Tamish and Mark Hood from “The Voice” will represent the opening lineup for the day.
