Joe Ledington, a nephew by marriage and the husband of a Colonel Harland Sanders relative, reportedly found a handwritten chicken recipe in a scrapbook.
Ledington has a scrapbook that was once owned by Claudia Sanders, second wife of the colonel who founded Kentucky Fried Chicken – now KFC. She passed away in 1997 and the scrapbook has been passed down. Yum! Brands, the parent company of KFC, says, “Lots of people through the years have claimed to discover or figure out the secret recipe, but no one’s ever been right.” The secret blend of 11 herbs and spices is kept in a vault, says the company, and they are the only that knows what it is. It’s also reported Sanders came up with the idea to have two different companies make part of the recipe, so no one company would ever have the entire recipe.
The secret Original Recipe was taste tested by the Chicago Tribune and they published the recipe. They report the recipe in their possession was “indistinguishable” from the batch bought at KFC once the MSG flavor-enhancer Accent was sprinkled on the chicken.
