An almost 11-hour standoff with police led to serious charges for troubled singer Chris Brown. Yesterday, police swarmed his Los Angeles mansion after Baylee Curran, who is Miss California Regional 2016, called 911 to report that Brown pointed a gun at her head. According to sources, Brown was having a gathering with some of his friends, when Curran arrived with another woman and man. The man was invited to the party but not Curran or the other female. Despite that, Brown allowed them to stay at his home. After soaking in a hot tub Curran went back inside as a friend of Brown’s was showing off a piece of jewelry. It was when she started to admire the bling that it is alleged that Brown became enraged and told her to “get the f— out” and pointed a gun at her. A large group of friends were at the home, including reality star Ray J, who was reportedly getting a tattoo done in the home. Curran is now claiming that she was there for an video shoot audition and had partied at the mansion in the past with no problem.
Curran alleges that she was detained by members of Brown’s entourage who would not allow her to take her phone and go unless she signed a non-disclosure agreement. Curran stated she refused to sign it and left the house with her friend and they called 911. She further stated that Brown appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. When police responded to the home, Brown refused to open the door until a search warrant was produced. During the wait for the warrant, a bag containing drugs and weapons was allegedly thrown out of a window by someone in the house. Police will not confirm whether any weapons or drugs were recovered on the property.
Eventually Brown’s attorney, Mark Geragos, arrived at the scene and entered the house. Soon afterward, Brown submitted himself for arrest. and was handcuffed and transported to jail. Brown was later booked on a felony charge of assault with a deadly weapon and then released on $250,000 bail.
A conviction on this charge carries a sentence of four years in jail, along with a $10,000 fine. Tis is the second time Brown has been arrested on an assault charge. Brown had previously pleaded guilty to assaulting his then-girlfriend, Rihanna in February 2009. In that case he was sentenced to five years of probation, one year of domestic violence counseling and six months of community service. Brown’s probation was lifted in March 2015 and under California law he is not supposed to be in possession of a weapon as a convicted felon.
