On Monday, Sept. 12, “The Real’s” highly anticipated season 3 premiere didn’t miss a beat. R&B songstress Monica Brown surprised two unsuspecting contestants competing in the “So Gone Challenge.” The singer also opened up about working on a new record and possible reconciliation between her and fellow songstress Brandy amid their ongoing beef.

“There was a fan that, um, sent a, uh tweet to Brandy and asked her you know, ‘Would you do the ‘So Gone Challenge’?’ And she said, ‘Child, bye!'” Loni Love said, stirring the pot. “Now, you know, it wouldn’t be ‘The Real,’ if we didn’t ask you, how do you feel about that?,” the co-host inquired.

“I’ll tell you, ‘The Real.’ I’m not bothered at all,” Monica said to a round of applause. “I am uh… This is what I always say… Honestly, um, the old me and the new me are two different things. And this journey of self- progression and self- love and empowerment that I’m on, I can’t go backwards. I think that that was just a test from God for me and I’ve always thought that she was one of the most legendary people and, uh, has one of the most amazing voices in the runs and riffs. And I just think that it’s, some of it, has been blown out of proportion to a degree, but I can’t tell my kids to do something that I can’t do. So it was just a test for me to, uh, always just take the high road and know that in anything that happens in this life, if it’s meant for you, it’s yours. Nobody can stop it or stand in the way of it.”

But that’s not it, when asked is she’d “work with Brandy again,” Brown replied. “Yes, because I mean, I would work with her again. It’s never been an easy situation, but the reason that I would do it, is because we are from a special elite group. It was her, Aaliyah and myself. And it was a very special time where each of us were individuals, we did our own thing and we all made our own mark. And the truth and reality is the only Grammy either of us has is together. So that to me says something special. So yeah, I absolutely would.”

“It’s all love baby,” she concluded.

As you may recall, Brandy recently threw shade at Brown’s popular “So Gone” challenge after a fan practically begged her to participate. “Chile bye,” she responded, which was enough to ruffle some feathers. While we don’t often see the “Moesha” alum clap back at fans, she used the opportunity to introduce the “new me.”

“Oh my darling, I haven’t read anyone in quite a while, it may be time… But I’m gonna let this one slide because your fave is having a moment. Moments are awesome!!!! BUT it’s a NO for me on the #IwannabeDownChallenge as well as all the others… I’m still needing people to let #TheBoyIsMine be #SoGone … @itss_niakay just killed this… And lots of people kept tagging me about it.. Thought it was great!!!! I not now and never will want to be anybody but myself!!! I’ve heard people put bible behind vocal in reference to me… That’s really nice of whoever made that up #CodeBible,” Brandy wrote via Instagram.

Now, if we could only convince her to accept Brown’s olive branch. What are your thoughts on Monica crediting Brandy for her Grammy success? Sound off in the comment section below.
