Well, it was a great day for the Philadelphia Eagles to fly high as they defeated the Cleveland Browns in the season opener. Rookie Carson Wentz proved himself a great acquisition in the recent trade. Several good things happened early on to signal that this was going to be an amazing game for the Eagles.
For starters, defensive end Vinny Curry was not on the inactive list due to a pre-season injury and was given clearance to play. There was a beautiful opening ceremony in which the marching band spread the American flag across the field; and holding one end of the flag was Vice President Joe Biden. This was all done to pay homage to the victims, family members and survivors of 9/11; as 2016 marked the 15th anniversary of one of the most tragic events in our nation’s history.
With no more Chip Kelly on board, Doug Pederson did an amazing job stepping in and here’s a hot fact for you; did you know that Pederson was a former Eagle player and this was his first game as head coach? Also, Wentz made history as a rookie starting quarterback in the first week of the regular season, marking the ninth straight year and making it one of the longest streaks for this to happen since 1968. So there were basically two rookies on the field.
When the actual game started is when the fun and cheering really began. Wentz didn’t waste any time putting everyone at ease in regard to head coach Pederson’s decision to trade starting quarterback Sam Bradshaw just one week before the season opener. In the first quarter, Wentz threw his first touchdown pass to Jordan Matthews.
Looks like Wentz has made quite the impression on some folks out there in the sports world. Wentz just might be the answer to what the Eagles are looking for to bring that quarterback “beast” into the fold so their team can attain a Super Bowl ring.
