When you see Maisha Wynn you can almost see her vibration. Her aura shines brightly and her words speak to an empowerment that comes from within. After the devastating loss of her mother, she decided to make a change. She amazingly shed 100 pounds and made the decision to be a bright light to the world. Her message of positivity and taking action resonates. We spoke with Wynn at her recent book signing for The Wynning Way: A Guide to Creating Success Your Way at Petes Fresh Market in Oak Park, Illinois. We talked about her life and why she has chosen the path she is on.
Tell us who you are and what you do?
I’m a Chicago-based lifestyle specialist with Live To Wynn. We’re a boutique lifestyle consulting firm that offers practical and aspirational guidance for individuals who want to improve the quality of their lives. Currently, Live To Wynn produces workshops, special events and social media content to achieve its goals; as the firm’s principal, I speak around the country, appear in media and create content. Most recently, I’ve written the ultimate guide for personal and professional development, The Wynning Way: A Guide to Creating Success Your Way. It has received rave reviews from actress and activist Sheryl Lee Ralph [and] the founder of Uptown Magazine, Len Burnett.
Talk about what inspired you to take your path.
I’ve learned you never know how truly resilient you are until you’ve reached your lowest point in life. I found my true power and passion after overcoming two major life events: the passing of my beloved mother due to a myriad of health issues and being downsized from my six-figure career in advertising due to the economy. In the midst of these crises, I made a conscious decision to convert my emotions, energy and talents into action by launching my brainchild, Live To Wynn.
What is your response to someone who says they wouldn’t be able to accomplish what you have?
You are what you think daily. You are what you speak daily. Your thoughts can either add value or diminish your success in life (as well as, the words you utter). With that being said, be extremely mindful of every single thought and word you manifest into your universe.
Talk about the challenges you have encountered during your journey?
The biggest hurdle I had to overcome during my journey of self-awareness was my state of mind. I grew up in a household where we had too much food in the refrigerator. Consequently, I had to recondition my mind on how I viewed food, my existence and what I desired for my future. It took me over 10 years to decide “enough was enough.” I slowly began getting active. I slowly began cutting out certain things from my lifestyle like red meat and fried foods. Now that I look back, I know it was the best decision ever. I feel and look like a new woman. A woman who has lost over 100 pounds and gained a greater sense of my internal power.
What does it mean to you to be focused?
One of my favorite designers, Giorgio Armani, stated, “To create something exceptional, your mindset must be relentlessly focused on the smallest detail.” To be focused is to be relentless, to have the fortitude to forge ahead no matter what.
What is next for you?
I am launching Live To Wynn’s lifestyle web series and podcast in 2017. Through our web series and podcast, we’ll show the world what can be accomplished when they transform their thinking and living.
