Melissa McGhie Proctor
Chief Marketing Officer, Atlanta Hawks
Melissa McGhie Proctor serves as the chief marketing officer for the Atlanta Hawks and Philips Arena.
In this position, she is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the club’s marketing teams, including marketing iIntegrationsand operations, digital and content marketing, and advertising, promotions and direct response. A proven asset to the Hawks organization, Porctor works closely with the executive leadership and shares oversight of the brand communication team.
Being a part of a sports teams is no new thing for Melissa. She has been a part of the NBA since high school, becoming the first “team attendant”/ ball girl for the Miami Heat organization, and in later years, returned to work for the Heat in the basketball operations division.
Motivated by the memory of her late mother, Proctor strives to work hard and continue to make her happy both personally and professional. She states her mom was her “biggest champion and was always So proud of her successes. She attributes those successes to three important factors: 1) being confident; 2) having drive/perseverance; and 3) a strong faith.
On being a powerful woman, she says, “I believe the strength of a powerful woman comes from being her whole, true and authentic self — unapologetically. By accepting yourself (flaws and all) you are able to let your light shine and encourage others to do the same.”
Not only has Proctor impacted the Hawks organization, she also mentors and serves with organizations such as The Children’s Museum of Atlanta, Women In Sports and Events (WISE, Atlanta Chapter) and the National Association for Multi-Ethnicity in Communications.
Proctor holds a bachelor’s in communications from Wake Forest University and a master’s in design studies and branding from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design at The London Institute.
