A middle school teacher is in jail this week after killing two neighbors during a Halloween party over the weekend. According to witnesses and police, Cary Heath was having a Halloween party early Sunday morning. His two neighbors, identified as roommates Philip Evans and Daniel Haros, stopped by and stayed around five minutes and spoke with Heath. The two men were wearing their pajamas at the time of the encounter.
After the men left, Heath left the party and retrieved an assault rifle. He then went to the home of Evans and Haros and shot them dead on their front lawn. Heath then went home and picked up his infant child and stated to his wife, “This is the last time I will see the baby. I killed two people.”
He then told his wife to clean the blood from in the gun safe where he kept his weapons. The next day, Heath went to school and taught his science classes as if nothing ever happened. He was taken into custody by US Marshalls as he left to go home for the day. Heath faces two charges of capital murder and could face the death penalty if convicted. He is being held in jail on a $1M bond.
Police have not determined a motive for the shooting and Heath is not cooperating with police. Paige Hudson Garcia, Phillip Evans’ mother, wrote on Facebook, “The murderer did not know our sons, the shooting was completely senseless (almost random).”
