Drug addicts know that in stressful times they are in danger of relapse and Lamar Odom is no different. The former NBA star recently had his divorce finalized with Khloe Kardashian almost a year after he overdosed at a Nevada brothel. During that episode, Odom was close to death after a three-day binge of sex, drugs, alcohol and herbal Viagra at the infamous Nevada brothel called the Love Ranch. Odom, who reportedly racked up a $75,000 bill, was lying in bed on his side with a pinkish fluid coming from his mouth and nose. Since his overdose, Odom had been spotted drinking at bars and many felt he was going to spiral out of control again. Not helping matters was an invitation from the Love Ranch to return for a free visit, an offer he declined.
At the time of Odom’s medical crisis, Khloe Kardashian withdrew her divorce paperwork. However, months later the papers were refiled and now the couple will be single on Dec. 17. Odom took this opportunity to return to a 30-day in-patient drug rehab facility. Sources close to Odom say he is clean and sober but knew he needed support.
According to reports by multiple media outlets, a source close to Odom stated, “Lamar checked into rehab a week ago. He plans to stay for 30 days. It’s a substance abuse program, but he was not abusing drugs when he went in. He is clean. This is a precautionary measure. He wants to stay clear and focused. With the divorce from Khloé being finalized and the holidays coming up, he doesn’t want to slip up. He’s trying to take care of himself. He really wants to be better. His friends and family encouraged him to go in and he agreed and made the decision.”
The holiday season is often a trying time for many resulting in a rise in depression. For some, this can result in suicide attempts or substance abuse.
