Trump’s America has revealed itself once again over skin color. Lebanon Valley College student Ricky Lee Bugg was eating at Just Wing It in Annville, Pennsylvania, with a friend this past Sunday. According to Bugg, he and his friend “weren’t being loud, we were just sitting there, watching TV.” The owner of the restaurant confronted Bugg and told him to leave based on his skin color. The incident grew heated and Bugg’s sister recounted the incident on social media and now the incident has become a viral Facebook post. Destiny Joy Bugg wrote:
“Last night my brother went to a restaurant in Annville, PA. A couple minutes after placing his order and paying, the manager came out from the back and said, ‘I own three restaurants and I don’t need you n—–s’ money.’ So my brother got his money back and then the manager came back out and just stared at him, WHICH IS WHEN THE MANAGER SAID, ‘Trump’s president now so I can say what I want. You n—–s need to get out.’ Now, of course, my brother was angry, so on the way out he knocked over a few chairs. That’s all he did. Also, the lady at the cash register was chiming in saying, ‘you guys can’t eat here, you need to go.’ My brother left to get more of his friends for support, and he returned to the restaurant only to find that the manager had called the cops on HIM. So the cops talked to my brother to find out his side of the story and they ‘reassured’ him that the manager is ‘known for doing stuff like this… So when I say ‘not my president,’ there’s a reason for that. It’s because people like the manager of that restaurant are the ones claiming Trump as their president. He is THEIR president. This has very little to do with politics and everything to do with morals. And lastly, PLEASE DO NOT GIVE THIS RESTAURANT YOUR SERVICE.”
The incident was confirmed by Gregory Krikorian, Dean of Students and vice president of Student Affairs at the Lebanon Valley College and he issued a public statement after news of the incident emerged:
“I am sad to have to report that an incident involving LVC students in an off-campus restaurant in Annville occurred during the early hours of this morning. It has been reported that an employee at the establishment made racially derogatory and offensive comments toward a male Black student. Other students were present. When the situation escalated, the Annville Police responded and documented the events. Student Affairs has reached out to the affected students and is offering support. Additionally, we will offer broader support to the community.”
The incident quickly spread in the college town and a press conference was held on Tuesday by Annville Township police Chief Bernard Dugan. Dugan stated that the restaurant complained that Bugg and his friend caused a disturbance because they “were unhappy with their food order.” He said he did not know if anyone was intoxicated during the incident. No charges have been filed in the incident and it is still considered an active investigation. The restaurant has disabled its Facebook page after news of the incident spread and negative reviews on the Yelp business website.
