On Feb. 3rd, Big Sean released his new album titled, I Decided. This 14-track collection of songs was completed during tour dates overseas, and studio sessions that Sean kept secret. The album roll-out also spawned various pop-up shops in Detroit, Los Angeles, New York, and Toronto. Big Sean also held listening parties in preparation for the album’s release.

Big Sean has grown substantially since Dark Sky Paradise, which was released in 2015 and produced four top 10 singles (“IDFWU,” “Play No Games,” “One Man Can Change The World,” and “Blessings.”) Cuts on the album such as “Light,” “Jump Out The Window” and “Same Time Part. 1” administer melodic pleasure and searing lyrics. His most intimate tracks on the album are “Voices In My Head/Stick To The Plan,” “Sunday Morning Jetpack,” and “Inspire Me.” These tracks truly show the heart-on-my-sleeve mantra that Sean lives by.

“I remember all of the sacrifices,
Growing up in debt, but never hungry,
Rich in everything except money,
That’s that faith that you can’t buy,
But I buy that new crib, you look right in it,
I buy that new car in the color that you like it in” -Inspire Me

The album’s narrator is an elderly gentleman who is the older version of Sean. This older version of himself is guiding him throughout the good and the bad right now in his life. On each album, he has merged his personal experiences and life circumstances into his music. The overall theme of second chances on this album is a universal concept everyone can relate to. I Decided is now available on Spotify and other streaming platforms.
