Twitter is certainly on a roll this week.
Before taking aim at Nicki Minaj, after frenemy Remy Ma bodied her in a scathing diss track titled “ShETHER,” social media had it out with pop star Demi Lovato over claims she’s “1 percent African.”
Just recently, the “Confident” singer shared the results of a recent DNA test, revealing she’s mostly Spanish, with Native American, Scandinavian, Irish and British roots — and a pinch of African.

I did a DNA test and found out I’m mainly Spanish, with Native American, SCANDINAVIAN (which I had NO idea), Irish, BRITISH….

And I’m 1% African!!!!

Not to our surprise, fans lost it over her proclamation.
And I’m 1% African!!!!

@Flawless_Demi_ @ddlovato everybody is at least 1% African but you don’t see everyone running around with tattoos of Africa

“Just thought it was cool and totally random,” Lovato later tweeted. “Some of y’all are mean af. Twitter sucks,” adding that she “didn’t mean to offend anyone.”
Of course, this isn’t the first time Twitter has taken aim at the former Disney star. Last June, the 24-year-old briefly quit social media to avoid trolls, revealing that she preferred Snapchat ” ’cause I don’t have to see what some of y’all say.” After less than 24 hours, she tweeted, “F— this. I’m back b—hes. And I’m coming back more honest than ever.”
According to a 2014 study published in The American Journal of Human Genetics, researchers found that roughly six million Americans who identified themselves as White were found to African roots. Their findings equated to roughly 3.5 percent of self-described White Americans having 1 percent or more African ancestry (with an African relative no further back than seven generations), according to The Washington Post.
