4. “The Get Down”
It’s not a history that is touched on very often, but the birth and subsequent proliferation of hip-hop culture is an amazing story, resembling more closely the birth of a religion as opposed to simply the popularization of a new genre of music. The show stars Shameik Moore, best known for his role in Dope, as well as Jaden Smith, and chronicles the lives of teenage DJs, emcees, breakdancers, and graffiti artists living in Brooklyn in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
