For many working moms, home life can be overwhelming, but fashion blogger Brandy Guery has found a way to balance it all. Guery, also known as Authentically.B, began her blogging journey three years ago and has consistently progressed. She has found a way to manage life as a wife, mom, elementary school teacher and blogger. While many teachers are enjoying their summer break, she is busy working on her Lauren by Ralph Lauren campaign and maintaining her blog. Read on to get some insight on how she does it.
What got you into blogging?
My husband and I about three years ago, we bought our first home and it was a 1920s fixer upper and it required a lot of work. For me, it was an opportunity to craft and to do all kinds of things around the house. I documented the process and shared with friends and families. It went from there to style. I used to get a lot of compliments on what I was wearing, so it all just snowballed from there.
How do you balance being a wife, an elementary teacher, and motherhood?
Honestly, there are things that just go undone as far as the blog. I have a schedule I want to keep and shoots that I want to do, but unless it is scheduled far in advance there are some things that just don’t happen. Teaching is a passion of mine and my career so it’s always going to come first. Time with my family is always going to come first, but I do have a lot of late nights. I tend to do most of my writing and editing while my husband and my son are sleeping. I lose out on a lot of sleep, but something has to give — either I am well rested or the blog is sitting stagnant. … I have a lot of support. … My husband is super supportive; he does a lot of my photos.
What inspires your fashion?
I draw my inspiration from so many places. It could be a stranger walking down the street and I’m just like, ‘Wow, I really like the cut of those pants.’ Of course, you have your celebrity influences. For me, as far as style, I really like Solange’s vibe. I really like the carefree attitude behind what she wears. She wears and does things the way she wants to, that can be a lost thing nowadays.
Which summer trends are you noticing?
Off the shoulder is hot right now. You can do anything off the shoulder; dresses, rompers, shirts, anything comes in off the shoulder. The huge earrings, the Irene earrings are really in right now.
Do you have any tips for people trying to find balance in their lives?
Find your tribe, find your support early on in the journey. [It helps] If you have close friends or family that you can always count on or depend on to take a quick photo or help you. Find your support and be super loyal to them because you can’t do anything without them.
