Georgia lynching, grave sites and Hard Labor Lake open for tours

The purpose of the long drive is to see the area where other victims are buried including a church that was built by former slaves. Dozens of painted wooden white crosses scatter the old church cemetery.

As you walk across the grounds you are told to be careful because you are stepping on unmarked graves, some of which have collapsed and clearly show the depression in the soil where a grave is dug. In this small cemetery, there is a bronze marker that shows the grave site of George W. Dorsey. His grave stands out because it is the only one among the white crosses that has a proper marker.
