Rosalind Brewer has been appointed the new president and COO of Starbucks Corporation, effective on October 2.
A Spelman College trustee, Brewer is currently a Starbucks board member and the former CEO of Sam’s Club since 2012. She resigned from the top spot at the bulk retailer because she wanted “a new challenge.” Fortune praised Brewer’s tenure, “On her watch, Sam’s Club made large strides in e-commerce with initiatives such as drive-through pick up of online orders and scan-and-go, which allows members to scan items with their own phones and speed up checkout, features that gave the chain a rare advantage over Costco.”
Brewer will command her new role at Starbuck’s Support Center in Seattle, Washington.
