Many people were sincerely happy that beloved soul songstress Jill Scott had supposedly found relationship bliss with Mike Dobson.
Unfortunately, the euphoria of marriage reportedly did not last long. The “A Long Walk” singer has split from her husband after only a year and some change, bossip.com has exclusively reported on Tuesday, Nov. 7.
Scott, 45, filed for divorce Sept. 15 from her now ex-Mike Dobson, 49, after 15 months of marriage, Bossip states, citing “irreconcilable differences” and “inappropriate marital conduct that such further cohabitation would be unsafe and improper,” according to her divorce petition.
Of course, neither Scott nor Dobson are going to elaborate on what exactly defines “inappropriate marital conduct.” At least, not in this forum. However, under Tennessee state law that phrase can include “cruel treatment, infidelity, verbal or physical abuse or sexual impropriety,” the entertainment publication states.
Scott and Dobson wed in June 2016 in Tennessee; legendary ’80s rapper Big Daddy Kane performed.
Scott, who guards her personal life like it’s a bank vault, was previously married to Lyzel Williams from 2001 to 2007. The “Golden” soul singer was also about to give musician Lil John Roberts a shot to go down the aisle but never made it that far. They do, however, have a son, Jett.
Scott lists the date of separation as Sept. 5 and added that they’ve moved into their own spots. She also lists herself as earning a “Ph.D.” and her occupation as a writer. She also lists Dobson as unemployed, but he told Bossip that he has been in an official position with the city of Atlanta since 2011.
Scott has a prenup, so she wants the courts to enforce it, especially since she had many assets before entering into this marriage, although she has purchased property and more assets since the two walked down the aisle.
Dobson had not responded to Scott’s petition, court documents show.
