NBA YoungBoy is facing backlash after a video emerged of the rapper attacking a woman who is said to be his girlfriend. According to TMZ, NBA YoungBoy, who was born Kentrell Gaulden, beat the young woman at a hotel in Waycross, Georgia.
A guest at the hotel complained of loud noises to management, who called authorities. When police arrived, NBA YoungBoy and the young woman were both gone. Police checked the surveillance tape and saw the attack where the rapper slams the young woman to the ground and pulls her shirt off. A warrant was issued for his arrest.
NBA YoungBoy was arrested hours later in Tallahassee, Florida.
Following the arrest, the young woman, Jania, defended her boyfriend.
“I was pulling him, that’s just us, that’s how we like to play,” she said in a video posted on Twitter. “He also ask [sic] me if I want to go home, ‘Nene do you want to go home’ no I don’t want to go home I like being with him. So if I was being held against my will then wouldn’t that mean he wouldn’t ask me that. Mind y’all business and get y’all own business.”
Jania also defended NBA YoungBoy after he allegedly kicked her out of his hotel room.
The attack and her response are both disturbing on many levels. Jania’s struggle to step away from an abusive situation sheds light on how victims often accept abuse while defending their abusers. NBA YoungBoy could face time for his actions. But it’s imperative that he and Jania be treated for mental health issues. Both are suffering from issues that likely stem from an unstable past.
