Troubling photo shows problem with race and teens in Alabama

A picture was circulated on the phone app Snapchat that shows a group of White teens in cowboy hats posed with a foot on the body of a Black teen. The caption along with the photo reads “We Got Us One.” According to reports, the teens are all students at Moody High School students near Birmingham, Alabama.

Moody High School Principal Christopher Walters told media outlet AL.com that the picture was intended to be a joke. Then parents chimed in as the furor increased, stating that their children were not racist and it is all being blown out of proportion.

The sad part of this episode is that although six white teens and one Black teen were in that picture, when it was released to the public, the faces of the White teens were blurred but not the Black teen, who has now been identified as Nick Fuller.

Fuller stated to the media, “I’m thinking about it now, but I didn’t think about it when we first took the photos. I’d still like to say sorry again for anyone I offended.”
