A Black woman was terrorized by two White men while shopping at Walmart. The incident occurred on Nov. 29, 2018, in West Monroe, Louisiana, according to KNOE.
The White men, identified as Dylan Reynolds and Michael Walters, approached the Black woman and began yelling racial slurs at her as she left the store and walked to her car. They called her the N-word as she rushed to put the items in her car. Even after she got into her car and pulled away, the two men chased her on foot and continued to yell racial slurs at her.
At some point, the men shoved a shopping cart into the rear end of the woman’s car. The cart caused $1,000 in damage to the vehicle and could have caused the victim to crash.
After the men shoved the shopping cart into her vehicle, they fled and drove away in a pickup truck.
Reynolds and Walters were arrested and are facing hate crime charges.
According to Louisiana law, a person can be charged with a hate crime if it is believed they committed specific crimes and targeted their victim or their victim’s property based on race, age, gender, religion, color, creed, disability, sexual orientation, national origin or ancestry.
If the crime committed is a felony, the suspect will be charged with a felony hate crime. The punishment for a felony hate crime is a fine of up to $5,000 and up to five years in jail.
