Four White teachers are under fire after a posting a controversial photo while holding a noose. The incident took place at Summerwind Elementary School in Palmdale, California, according to Fox 11.

In the photo that has since gone viral, four of the teachers are holding what appears to be a noose, while laughing. The photo was initially emailed to all staff members by the school’s principal, Linda Brandts.

Parents of students who attend the school have reportedly spoken out about race issues at the school in the past. Although about one-third of the students are Black, there are only a few Black teachers at the school.

Palmdale School District Superintendent, Raul Maldonado released a statement that said: “This afternoon it has been brought to the Palmdale School District’s attention that an incident involving the discovery of a noose and possibly inappropriate responses to that discovery occurred at Summerwind Elementary School.”

Brandts has since been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.
