A simple visit to a lake in Starkville, Mississippi, resulted in terror for a Black couple during the Memorial Day weekend. Jessica Richardson posted to Facebook her encounter with a gun-toting White woman, upset that the couple was on the lake. Fortunately, violence did not ensue, but Richardson was upset that the unidentified woman thought it was necessary to pull a gun.
On Tuesday, May 28, 2019, Kampgrounds of America which runs the lake facility announced they have taken action against the unidentified woman and her husband who were managing the campground. Spokesman Mike Gast stated that the gun-toting woman and her husband have been fired. He stated to media that KOA “does not condone the use of a firearm in any manner” on its properties or franchises.
Below are the video and post from Richardson that shows her encounter with the now former KOA employee.
RACISM IS ALIVE AND WELL!!
Today was a beautiful day so my husband (who’s a vet), our two-year-old dog, and myself, decided to Google a lake to visit and have a picnic. We found a lake located in Starkville, MS and decided to visit. Not five minutes later a truck pulls up and a white lady screams at us, she then jumps out of her truck with a gun. And proceeded to point it at the three of us, simply because we didn’t make reservations. After leaving, my husband stopped by the office and talked with her husband (they’re the property managers). The husband tells my husband that reservations aren’t needed for the lake. This happened In Starkville, MS.”
