Jay-Z continues to face backlash over his new partnership with the NFL, which was announced publicly on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2019.
The business-minded rapper was blasted by activist Shaun King for doing the deal without speaking with Colin Kaepernick. Hours after King posted his complaint on Twitter, TMZ reported that an unnamed source at Roc Nation said that Jay-Z did speak with Kaepernick before the partnership was completed.
However, Kaepernick’s girlfriend, Nessa Diab, a New York-based host and media personality for Radio One, rejected that report and claimed the two men did not speak.
Nessa, who is known professionally by her first name, wrote on Twitter: “Jay-Z Spoke with Colin Kaepernick Ahead of NFL Partnership. This is a lie. Colin never spoke to Jay-Z and NFL ahead of that deal being done. They never included him in any discussion. (sic)”
She insists that the NFL continues to blackball Kaepernick.
Nessa wrote: “No PR look will ever cover up the truth that Kaepernick is wrongfully unemployed because he protested against injustices happening to Black and Brown communities.”
As press time, Kaepernick had yet to respond.
