A Will Smith produced “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” spin-off series is in development.
The popular 90’s sit-com is returning to TV, with a twist, according to the multi-hyphenate star. During a lengthy sitdown interview, Smith reveals the series is in the initial stages of development without disclosing further details. The original series featured the antics of the Banks family, their nephew Will and their butler Jeffrey. A fixture on TV during its era, cast members continue to enjoy the royalties from the original series, which aired from 1990 to 1996.
Using Westbrook Inc., a cross-platform holding company Smith oversees with his wife Jada, the Smith’s empire is growing.
According to Smith, the platform will expand the family’s brand into new media, technology and merchandising. Smith also has new film roles in works including King Richard, a film based on the father of Venus & Serena Williams and Bright 2. Not to mention his portrayal of New York gangster Nicky Barnes in the upcoming film The Council.
Smith currently stars in the action-thriller Gemini Man in the dual role of veteran ex-special forces sniper Henry Brogan and Brogan’s younger duplicate, Junior. In the film Brogan finds himself under attack from his younger self in a worldwide global chase.
