Here are some reasons why the NBA logo will not change despite strong public sentiment to do so:
NBA does not want to change its logo because it does not want any one player to represent the entire league;
The NBA denies that the current logo is of Jerry West, despite the logo designer, Alan Siegel, admitting that he used West as the inspiration;
The NBA wants the logo to remain generic because too many legendary players were responsible for elevating the game of basketball to single out one person;
The alleged sexual assault case against Bryant in Colorado in 2003. Even on the day that he died, Bryant was dogged by certain national reporters, comedians and feminists with accusations that he raped a woman 17 years ago. Therefore, the groundswell of support to change the logo would be offset by a very vocal minority who would vociferously oppose the move. Bryant was never convicted in the case, but critics point out that he paid the woman off with an undisclosed settlement to get the charges dropped.
