Dennis Williams II’s new short film ‘Clout’ is Atlanta’s ode to ‘Hustle & Flow’

How would you say that your background in marketing has impacted your creative vision?

DW: Understanding how to bring a creative vision to the community and the rest of the world. There’s work that’s getting made every day that gets lost. The creative is 50 percent. The other 50 [percent] is, like, how you get into the muscle.

Which creators would you like to collaborate with in the future?

DW: Donald Glover. Being a multi-hyphenate, it gives him a very unique perspective. He approaches films differently than people that work as just filmmakers. Andre 3000 I think can be a perfect fit for Clout. He’s definitely on that list.

Has Atlanta has finally cemented its place in the culture?

Jesse Martin: What makes Clout timely is that people are finally starting to realize that Southern hip-hop is slowly starting to take [Atlanta’s] sound and globalize it.

What do you hope audiences glean from Clout?

JM: [I hope they] gain that perspective that no matter what background or resources you think you have, you can forge your way into a successful situation.

Check out the trailer for Clout below. The film is currently awaiting acceptance into the Sundance Film Festival.
