Hip-hop artist Sheri Sher details cost Black women pay to reveal sexual assault

Since the rise of the #MeToo movement, we’ve seen powerful men facing sexual assault allegations brought to justice. Why do you think we haven’t seen much of this in the hip-hop industry?

The fear of the backlash and retaliation, as well as [a] lack of support and resources from our community and in society. We come from a culture where we are taught not to bring Black men down, and we will silence ourselves to do so.


What advice do you have for young girls or women who are scared to come forward?

Don’t let fear hold you back. Fear will only demolish the greatness you are created to be. Face your giants, and then you will see clearly the strength that comes from within.
