In the movie, your character is critical of Maggie’s desire to produce for Grace. What do you think it takes to be a good producer today in the industry?
I think you got to have talent, your own voice as a producer, your music has to have its own hook, direction, and its own texture. I think you have to be somewhat of a fan of the artist that you’re producing to a point where you know what that artist should do or what, what makes, like, that artist, and want to work with that artist.
You recently celebrated the 30th anniversary of your debut studio album, AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted. Can your fans expect new music from you in the future?
I’m working on music during this quarantine and, hopefully, if there some that I think is ready, then I’ll drop it. But I won’t drop it until I feel like that [it] is ready or it’s something that I really need to say.
