Wiz Khalifa to play P-funk legend George Clinton in upcoming biopic

“Spinning Gold is about a group of people who, once upon a time, lived a fairytale and made their dreams come true, all set to some of the greatest music ever pressed in vinyl,” his son, director Timothy Scott Bogart said in a statement to Billboard. “Bringing these dreamers and artists to life has been the privilege of my life. For a film about one of the greatest salesmen in the entertainment business, I am thrilled to be working with Christian [Mercuri], Marc [Goldberg] and the entire team of Capstone to share this timeless story to audiences and music lovers around the world.”

The film follows the music executive’s story as well as the rise of Buddah and Casablanca record labels in the 1960s and 1970s. The movie’s soundtrack will reportedly also feature new covers of classic songs from artists portrayed in the film to draw in the younger generations.
