Dr. Webb of the White House explains how to avoid contracting COVID-19

What do you say to people who argue that COVID-19 can still be contracted after being vaccinated?

I’ve seen a lot of vaccines in my day and this is certainly one of the most effective vaccines I’ve ever seen. I’ve been giving folks flu shots every year to prevent them from getting sick. The flu shot is nowhere near as effective as COVID vaccine. So, if you look at the original tests, that group of folks went through 95% efficacy of these vaccines. So 19 out of 20 people didn’t get COVID.

What would you say to young people who are on the fence about getting vaccinated?

Let’s take an [account] of how much we’ve lost over these last 17 months. We’ve lost more than lives. We’ve also lost opportunities experiences. For high schoolers, they’ve missed homecomings and proms. They’ve missed sports seasons. For college students, they’ve missed entire portions of their college experience. And we want to get back to normal. We want to get back … not just to surviving, but thriving, and this vaccine really is our best tool to do that.
